Half Marathon training - weeks 3, 4 and 5

To be honest there was no training weeks 3 and 4.  My excuses were we had visitors - lame I know!

I decided at the end of week 4 though that I needed to give myself a firm kick up the bum and get my ass in gear.

I got myself a FitBit Flex.  I walk quite a bit with Baby M, I try to walk every day if it is dry.  I thought the FitBit would enable me to monitor my walking as well as my running.  It has been a great motivator!!

I have also started doing my Nike Training App Ab Blaster workout as well as I need to tone up my belly.   It's 15 minutes of ab intense workouts including plank, Russian twists and toe touches.  My abs feel sore but as they say - no pain no gain!!

I have managed 3 runs this week.

My first was 1.8 miles with my next 2.1 miles.  My plan for my run over the weekend is to build up to about 3 miles then slowly increase the distance.  I plan to run Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday with a possible run on Monday depending on Mr M's work.  We are going to the inlaws next weekend and there are family events planned, plus I don't know the area well so wouldn't know where to go for a good run.  We will be doing lots of walking so I will be doing some exercise.

The days I don't run I will do the ab blaster on my Nike Training app as I have done this week.

I have enjoyed running and am glad I've actually started properly.  Let's see what next week brings

Half Marathon Training - week 2

Week 2 didn't really start off any better than week 1 as my cold got progressively worse and ended up on my chest.  Even walking up and down the stairs left me breathless!!

I have been feeling like someone is sitting on my chest until yesterday so haven't been out for a run.

I'm hoping that things continue to improve & I will be able to get out for a run at some point over the weekend.  Even if I don't manage a run I am planning on doing my ab blaster part of my Nike app

Half Marathon training - Week 1

My first week hasn't gone as planned.

I thought I would manage 4-5 runs & I managed 2.  I haven't done any of my Nike app

Firstly I was ill then Mr M has been teething & I've had hardly any sleep, I'm not sure how I've managed my day to day tasks never mind a run. I feel like I'm making excuses though.  Mr M reminded me that I haven't been sitting on my bum not bothered & that I'm my harshest critic.  He's right there, I am.

The runs I have completed have been 1.8 miles completed in 20 minutes, not too bad.  I've been using MapmyRun app to record my runs.  My plan is to build this distance up then introduce interval training.

I'm hoping that week 2 will be better than week 1. The feeling you get after a run is great & I know once I get into a routine there will be no stopping me.

I've done it!! I've signed up to my first half marathon

Yes I think I might be crazy!!!

But I have signed up to do my first ever half marathon!!

I have done my fair share of 5K & 10K runs but I've never done a half marathon.  I really enjoy running and have been on a few runs since Baby M was born.  I sometimes need focus though.

Running is great.  It's free for a start! You can pick your route and just stick your ipod on and go.  It's a great way to keep fit.  I'm not happy with my post baby body so I'm hoping a mix of running and my Nike Training App I will get my body back.  I love the Nike app as you can pick the workout you want to do and they have focused workouts on problem areas - mine being my bum & my belly.

So I have signed up to do the Blackpool Half Marathon on 2th April 2015 with Fylde Coast Running.  Fylde Coast Running cover all races in my area so its my go to website.  Plus it's how you register for runs.

Since the half marathon is a year away it gives me plenty of time to get my running mojo back then start my training.  I am also going to blog about my running week every Friday.  I am hoping that this will also give me focus and motivation to keep running.

I have decided I am going to run to raise money for a very worthy charity.  The charity is Diabetes UK.  As I have mentioned before my husband has Type 1 Diabetes so this is a charity very close to my heart.  It's another motivation to keep running as I won't want to let them down.

As it's the 26th April tomorrow my running journey starts tomorrow - a year to the day until the half marathon.  I hope you will cheer me along and come back every Friday to find out how I am getting on
