4 months

I can't believe our little boy is 4 months old!!! Where has the time gone??

He was weighed this week at the weighing clinic and now weighs 15lb4oz, he's put on 1lb5oz in 4 weeks.

We also had his 3rd vaccinations this week - 5 in 1 and Pneumococcal vaccines.  We had a 20 second cry but then he was fine afterwards and didn't seem to get any ill effects.  He's such a brave boy!

Baby M is growing and developing into a tiny person, he is such a cheeky chappy.  He is such a happy baby giving us smiles and giggles.  He only cries when he is hungry.

He's interacting so much more with us and his surroundings now.  He loves to play!! He can now reach out for his toys on his play mat and bouncer chair.  He loves his birdy and smiles when you give it to him.  The concentration on his face when he is holding his toys and moving them about is adorable.

His speech is developing too, he keeps finding new noises to make.  His current favourite thing to do is putting his lips together and blowing air out, like we do on his belly.

He loves us blowing on his tummy.

Bath time is so much fun.  I don't think he will be in his baby bath much longer.  He loves kicking and splashing - we've now had to put towels all around the bath to try and soak up the water.

Baby M is now in his cot too, he doesn't seem to have been phased by it.  We do still let him fall asleep on us but we are going to put him down in his cot this week to break that habit.

He has such strong legs - even the health visitor commented on this when she visited.  He would much rather stand than sit and has even attempted to put one foot in front of the other.  When he's lying down he tries to roll over but hasn't quite got there yet.  When he does sit down he has now found his feet and wiggles them and grabs them.

The health visitor told us he is definitely teething and I think they have been causing him some discomfort this week.  We've tried gels, teething rings but he would rather shove his fists in his mouth, sometimes making himself gag because he's put his fingers too far into his mouth.  I also think he's found his thumb, I've noticed it in his mouth a few times.

We've got lots on this month, I can't wait to see his reactions to things and watching him develop.  Who knows what he will have achieved in the next month!

12 week vaccinations & weighing of Baby M

Baby M had his 12 week vaccinations last week.  He had them at 13 weeks due to the slightly silly system at our GP.

At this appointment Baby M was given his second dose of the 5-in-1 vaccination which is for diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio and Haemophilus influenzae type b.  He also had his second dose of the rotavirus vaccine which is given orally.  He had his Meningitis C vaccine for the first time, the health visitor had warned us that this vaccine may cause him to develop a temperature.

There was a sharp cry when he was given his vaccinations (one in each leg at the same time) but after cuddles from daddy he was fine.  He was then given the rotavirus vaccine which he guzzled so much he started coughing, obviously likes sweet things!!

Again I think Mr M and I were more traumatised than he was, when he got home he slept for about 3 hours, he fell asleep even before we had left the GP building.

We montiored his temperature but it was fine.  The next morning he was a little grumpy but he was back to his happy self by the afternoon.

We thought that he would get weighed at this appointment like he did for his 8 week one but that wasn't the case.  We haven't heard from our health visitor since the week before his 8 week appointment.  After speaking to the nurses who gave him his vaccinations we got a list of baby clinics and took him to a local clinic to get weighed.  He now weighs 13lb 15oz, getting such a big boy!!!

Next vaccination appointment is in 4 weeks then that will be him until he is 1 year old

8 week check & vaccinations - Baby

Baby M had to go to the Dr for his 8 weeks check.  The same checks were carried out before he left the hospital, these were checking that everything was still as should be.

Firstly we saw the nurse and he was weighed and his height taken, he weighs 12lb 3 oz now and measured 52 cm in length.  He's our big boy!!

Next he saw the GP.  He checked him over including his hips, fall reflex and his man area.  Baby M has an umbilical hernia so he informed us that he wasn't concerned but for us to make a Dr appointment for 3 months time so this can be monitored.  If we have any concerns in the time before that then we obviously make an appointment.

We then went back to the nurse and he was given his vaccinations.  He was given the 5 in 1 vaccination which contains diphtheria, polio, tetanus, whopping cough and hib.  He also received his pneumonia vaccination.  There were 2 nurses who stood one on either side and each administered an injection into a leg at the same time, he had little plasters on each leg after.  Now he did scream but it wasn't as bad as we were expecting.  He was given a hug by daddy (who was holding him as I would get upset if I had to hold him) then he was fine.  He even gave the nurses smiles after!!! He was then given the rotavirus in liquid form which he seemed to like the taste of!!

We have to keep an on his injection sites and if he develops a temperature we can strip him down to his vest or if it continues give him some calpol.

I am so proud of how well he managed, he's our little soldier!!!
